Meet the judges

Dr Matt Jameson Evans, Chief Medical Officer at HealthUnlocked
Co-founder of HealthUnlocked and NHS surgeon, with orthopaedic training in a number of leading London hospitals. Together with Jorge Armanet, he founded HealthUnlocked in 2010 as a response to the lack of continuity and information available to patients. Matt was appointed as fellow of the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) in 2015 and was presented with Best Progress Award in 2016 in the NIA Summit in 2016 for launching a new 'social prescription' service by HealthUnlocked for the NHS. Matt is a frequent speaker in digital health congresses.

Carolyn Barkin, Director of Delivery at Simplyhealth
Carolyn Barkin is Director of Delivery & Guidance at Simplyhealth. With over 20 years’ experience in health and care, spanning public and private sectors in both the UK and US, she has some unique experiences and views. In particular, she believes that greater health and wellbeing can be found by creating synergies between people engagement and technology. The Simplyhealth Care Community, powered by HealthUnlocked, is a great example of how technology can connect people to advice and support. Carolyn has recently taken up running, joining the ‘Bridge to 10k’ Community to support her training for the Simplyhealth Great Run Series.

Eva Lake, Head of Digital Engagement at NHS Digital
Eva heads up Digital Engagement at NHS.UK, including social, email, partnerships and user reviews for NHS services. She is passionate about how to use digital to create the best possible experiences and finding new ways to use digital platforms and tools to engage and support people with their health. Prior to NHS, Eva has worked in digital for over 14 years, moving from media to the charity sector, and is watching with interest as our digital habits and expectations evolve, and what that means for our social relationships, use of personal data and transactions.

Emma Cox, Chief Executive Officer, Endometriosis UK
Emma joined Endometriosis UK in February 2016. Emma’s background is as a strategic change management specialist with over 20 years’ experience gained working in volunteering, membership organisations including Diabetes UK, NUS and the Chartered Quality Institute. Emma has an MSc in Organisational Behaviour, and has recently completed an MBA.

Peggy Bezruki, Registered nurse and Support Line manager, Free to Breathe
Peggy is a registered nurse in the US, with a board certification in gerontology. Peggy has held a number of clinical positions including staff nursing on a medical surgical unit; teaching the underserved; home visitations; infectious disease control and supervision and training of staff in skilled nursing. Currently Peggy enjoys the role of Support Line Manager with Free to Breathe in Madison, WI. USA, where she provides important help to members of the Free to Breathe community on HealthUnlocked.

Alexa Chaffer, Head of Communications, HealthUnlocked
Alexa is Head of Communications for HealthUnlocked. Alexa is an experienced communications specialist, with a particular interest in health tech. Alexa has held a number of senior communication roles within NHS trusts along with the post of press secretary for the Minister of the Cabinet Office, where she worked closely with the Government Digital Service (GDS).
